BJCL U11 side play in the YJCF Semi Final this Sunday

This Sunday 4th July, the BJCL Under 11 representative side head to Thirsk Cricket Club (YO7 1QP) for the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival Under 11 Competition,  where the North Yorkshire representative team will be our hosts. Wickets will be pitched at 1pm.

An earlier report on this website informed how the Bradford boys had won their opening 30 over per side YJCF fixture v Upper Airedale. This was followed by a comprehensive ‘friendly’ win v the Leeds and Wetherby side at New Rover CC – BJCL 149 for 4, Leeds/Wetherby 64 all out – where all the batsmen contributed. Harry Wilkinson (Keighley CC) retired on 32 with Lightcliffe’s Oliver Frearson finishing on 26 and Great Horton Church’s Hashim Khokar 23, both not out. Keighley’s Haroon Nazam was the stand-out Bradford bowler with 5 for 12 with Undercliffe’s Navjot Singh, Ayan Ahsan (Great Horton Church), Khokar and Wilkinson taking a wicket apiece.

Our 2nd competition match was held at the ever supportive Undercliffe CC with the Nidderdale League the visitors. Asked to bat, Nidderdale were soon in trouble faced with a hostile Bradford attack. Great Horton Church’s Ayan Ahsan removed the top three in the Nidderdale order to finish with 3 for 4 from his 5 overs with 2 wickets apiece for Wilkinson and Navjot Singh on his home Undercliffe turf. Skipper Monty Ramsden took the final wicket after his Lightcliffe clubmates Harry Dalzell, Frearson and ‘keeper Owen Horne had combined for 2 run outs. Nidderdale were all out for 64 from 26.3 overs of consistently good bowling from the Bradford boys.

In reply, Bradford wasted no time and raced to victory off only 10.3 overs, despite losing an early wicket. Great Horton Church’s Taha Iftikhar made a fluent 18 before running himself out leaving Ramsden, 18 not out, to steer his side home on 65 for 2. This victory set up a winner takes all clash as the Aire-Wharfe league had also beaten both the Upper Airedale and Nidderdale leagues.

Windhill & Daisy Hill CC superbly hosted a match where Bradford won the toss and once again asked their opponents to bat. The Bradford attack bowled superbly to make runs hard earned for the Aire-Wharfe boys. Wilkinson and Navjot Singh both took 3 wickets apiece with Ahsan and Saltaire’s Anish McMillan taking one each. Farsley’s Ashwin Singh and Dalzell also bowled with great control and pace and only some late order hitting saw the Aire-Wharfe muster 100 for 9 off their 30 overs.

The Aire-Wharfe league were jubilant with a breakthrough in the 2nd over but were soon on the back foot as Ramsden hit nine 4’s in a fluent 48 off only 31 balls. Ably supported by Nazam with 17, both departed with the score in the early 70s. It was left to Ahsan and Buttershaw St Paul’s Billy Carroll to steer Bradford home on 101 for 4 with 7 overs to spare.

Harry Wilkinson will captain the team this Sunday as Monty Ramsden has been rewarded for his performances with selection for the Yorkshire Under 11 team away to Staffordshire on Sunday so Hashim Khokar returns to the team. The full team is:

Harry Wilkinson (capt), Anish McMillan, Ashwin Singh, Ayan Ahsan, Haroon Nazam, Harry Dalzell, Harry Robinson (wkt), Hashim Khokar, Navjot Singh, Oliver Frearson, Taha Iftikhar.

We wish the team well and hope they can qualify for the final
