BJCL U11 storm into Sunday's YJCF Final to be played at Bridgeholme CC

The Bradford Junior Cricket League Under 11 representative side advanced to this Sunday's Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival final with a dominant display at Thirsk Cricket Club against semi-final foes the North Yorkshire League. Having won their group with comprehensive victories by 6 wickets versus the Upper Airedale League, 8 wickets v the Nidderdale League and 6 wickets in the winner takes all clash against the Aire-Wharfe League, it was no surprise when Keighley's Harry Wilkinson inserted the hosts having won the toss.

Bradford had been boosted pre-match by the late availability of Lightcliffe's Monty Ramsden following the postponement of the Yorkshire Under 11 fixture at Staffordshire and the opening attack of Ayaan Ahsan (Great Horton Church) with 2 for 4 and Farsley's Ashwin Singh, 2 for 5, added to the feelgood factor with a hostile display of controlled pace bowling. With 5 maidens between them, North Yorks were reeling on 11 for 4 after 10 overs. Things didn't get easier for the hosts as Undercliffe's Navjot Singh, 1 for 12, and Saltaire's left armer Anish McMillan, 3 for 7 piled on the pressure. Wilkinson and Ramsden bowled 5 over for 8 before Lightcliffe's Harry Dalzell and GHC's Hashim Khokar, with a wicket apiece, saw North Yorks bowled out for 51 off 27.4 of their 30 overs.

With a storm approaching from the south over the main stand of Thirsk Racecourse the tea interval was shortened in the hope that the match could be concluded. However, only 4 overs were possible before the umpires took the players off for safety reasons as an electric storm approached. Keighley's Haroon Nazam and GHC's Taha Iftikhar had safely steered Bradford to 12 for 0 at this point. Despite missing the worst of the storm, heavy rain for almost an hour signalled the abandonment of the match so the bonus points gained were to settle the outcome as there had to be a result on the day.

With 0.2 for every wicket taken and 0.01 for every run scored up to 200, Bradford were comfortable winners with 2.12 bonus points v North Yorkshire's 0.51

The final this Sunday 11th July will be held at the picturesque Bridgeholme CC (OL14 6DQ) which is located between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. The team would appreciate any support from around the BJCL for the 1pm start.

The Bradford boys will be unchanged from the semi-final and will prepare with a net at Park Avenue on Saturday morning. The Heavy Woollen League will provide the opposition having bowled out the previously free scoring Huddersfield for only 48 to win by 5 wickets.
