Black Sheep final is washed out

2 Sep 2017

The Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy final was washed out at Masham on Sunday.

Holders York and Pudsey St Lawrence will now have to be rescheduled for the start of next season. After the start was delayed due to overnight rain, the teams were set to play a 30-over contest when the rain returned and ended hopes of a game.

The abandonment  was particularly disappointing to the Masham club who worked tirelessly to try and get the game on to help mark the 25th anniversary of Black Sheep who brew their beer within sight of the ground.

Competition organiser Alan Birkinshaw said: "We all feel for the Masham club because they could not have worked harder or been more welcoming hosts.

"Both Pudsey St Lawrence and York have expressed the wish that the final be re-staged at Masham and we hope that we can finally take the game back to the home town of our competition sponsors.

"Masham is a beautiful ground and many people who visited for the first time on Sunday were impressed with what they saw."
