Club in Winter - East Ardsley

8 Apr 2018

In the latest Club in Winter series Reg Nelson looks at the prospects of East Ardsley United for the 2018 season with First Team captain Tom Daniels following their Conference title win last season.

Successful winter at East Ardsley

Daniels said: “After a successful winter we are all ready to go at East Ardsley United Cricket Club for the upcoming season and the challenge that promotion last season now brings. It will be new experiences for most at the club with new clubs and grounds to visit which will bring new exciting challenges”.

New signings

“We have added two new players to strengthen our already talented squad with the acquisitions of James Marston (Great Preston) and Gary Jennings (Newton Hill). They join our successful squad from last season which we have kept together, and this will give us a great position to start the season”.

“We aim to bring through players from our junior side and this is shown by the majority of our senior players coming through the club as juniors which develops a great team spirit.

"We are hoping to again challenge on four fronts Championship Two, Jack Hampshire Cup, T20 competition and The National Village Cup.

"This will undoubtedly require a number of players to play their part this season but we are positioned well with genuine competition for places in the first 11 which will strengthen the second 11 to aim for promotion under the leadership of new captain Scott Mullins”.

Looking ahead

“Within the second 11 we will look to nurture new juniors whilst competing for promotion to the Premiership. Over the winter we have continued to develop facilities at the club. This was supported by 30 people from right across the club attending NatWest Cricket Force and also 90 people attending a very snowy race night.

"We are looking to continue to develop the family feel by hosting a quiz night after the first game of the season on the 21st April. This will continue by inviting the wider community (including the cricket community) to our second Beer Festival. This will run from Friday, September  21 to Sunday, September 23 and we hope to see you all there.”
