East Ardsley mourn death of Bob Pearson

East Ardsley have announced the passing of long serving stalwart Bob Pearson who has died at the age of 90. Bob served the club for over 65 years in many capacities.

He started playing in the early 50s and played for over 30 years. He was a good all round cricketer albeit primarily a bowler, he could bowl off spin, leg spin and medium pace. In a local derby versus Morley in 1967 he achieved the remarkable feat of taking two hat-tricks in the same match.

He has been a Trustee of the club for many years and he held numerous roles including, secretary, treasurer, committee member, bar manager, groundsman and junior cricket coach.

He was instrumental in building the current clubhouse in the early 1960s and the extension for the changing rooms in the late 1970s, which club members built themselves. He also built the scorebox and until the last couple of years he could still be seen carrying out odd jobs around the club.

Bob and his wife Marion were both keen supporters watching week in week out both home and away. Bob was in attendance at this year's Jack Hampshire final which unfortunately ended in defeat for East Ardsley against Jer Lane but he was delighted the club had secured promotion to Division One on the previous day.

Bob's eldest son Michael is current chairman of the club and his grandsons Ashley and Adam both play in the first team, his youngest son Paul is secretary at Gildersome & Farnley Hill where ihs other grandson Liam is current first team captain.
Bob will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His funeral will be held at St Michael's Church in East Ardsley on Tuesday,  November 2 at 1pm followed by a celebration of his life at East Ardsley Cricket Club.
