League to hold one minute silence for Prince Philip

League to hold one minute silence for Prince Philip

As a mark of respect to the passing of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League will hold a one minute silence at all league fixtures on Saturday, April 17.

The league requires the following procedure to be followed.

  • Umpires, having previously been notified by the Match Officials Association, will inform the Captains at the ‘toss’ that play will be suspended at 2.55pm or at the end of the over immediately prior to 3pm.
  • Where club umpires are in charge of the match they will be informed by their club of the procedure to follow.
  • All Players from both teams, including those who are not on the field of play at 2.55pm, must be ready in their whites, at 2.55pm or as above to walk to the middle and form a line at either side of the pitch.
  • The umpire(s) will announce the start of the silence with words to the effect – As part of the National One minute silence ‘ please let us observe a 1 minute silence ‘ in memory of HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh.’
  • At the end of one minute timed by one of the umpires the umpire can just say – ‘thank you gentlemen’
  • Play resumes as soon as is reasonably possible when those not batting or fielding have left the field.
  • If the state of the game is between innings the umpires will notify both captains and their players to meet ‘out in the middle at 2.55 or thereabouts’

  • Any time ‘lost’ by this interlude will be added on to the time allowed to complete the overs as per the league rules and without penalty.
  • It is important that everybody complies with this instruction so that the league can be united in remembering a man who gave great service to his country and had a deep love for the game of cricket.
