Ossett's Nick Connolly reaches 1,000 runs

Nick Connolly passed 1,000 league runs for the season when he reached 51 in his innings of 63 against Bankfoot today and set two new league records.

The Ossett opener beats by two days the earliest any batsman has got to the landmark. The record had been held since 1993 by the former Farsley opener Russell Evans who reached four figures on July 25.

Connolly completed his 1,000 runs in 16 innings which is the least any batsman has taken to reach the landmark in the top division. The previous best was 17 by Lorenzo Ingram of Farsley in 2011. The all-time league record was set in 2010 in Division Two by Lightcliffe's Chris Taylor who got there in 14 innings.

This season, Connolly's first at Ossett, has seen him hit five centuries and seven fifties. His highest score was 121 against Methley while his other centuries have been 105no v Bankfoot, 111 v Hanging Heaton, 104no v Pudsey St Lawrence and 120no v Batley.

This is the second time that the left-hander has reached 1,000 runs. He scored 1,185 for Hanging Heaton in 2017.

He currently has 1,012 runs and is well placed to beat his previous best with another six matches to play.
