Pudsey Congs have lost one of its keenest members with the passing of Peter Marsh a Life Trustee.
Ralph Middlebrook kindly supplied the following obituary:
A determined opening bat who generally provided a solid foundation for the innings, I do not remember him giving his wicket away - ever. After playing for Pudsey Trinity CC and English Electric CC he joined Pudsey Congs and soon became a key member.
In particular, undertaking the transition from a Club who rented a pitch from the Council through the purchase and development of the historic Britannia ground.
In cooperation with fellow Trustees at the time, Adrian Carr and Bill Smart, Peter used his business acumen to steer the huge workload this involved and along with other enthusiastic members to provide the beautiful ground we see today.
Peter loved cricket as a player, committee member, trustee and President. Additionaly he also served as President of the Dales Council Cricket League for several years. A firm supporter and advocate of the Bradford Cricket League his advice, support and generosity was unstinting and he made many friends through his love of our great sport.
Peter’s cortège will pass Pudsey Congs ground at approximately 12 15 pm on Thursday 11th March and well wishers are asked to gather remembering social distancing apart on either side of the road to pay their respect and support in these troubled COVID times.
League President, Keith Moss MBE said "Peter was a very old friend and fellow man of Pudsey, a man of great integrity and honesty in everthing he did, not least the wonderful work he and his colleagues did in developing Pudsey Congs and the Britannia ground to become the success that they have undoubtobly been in the Bradford League. He will be sorely missed."
