Ray Illingworth funeral arrangements

The funeral for former England cricket captain Ray Illingworth is to take place at St John's Church, Old Road, Farsley on Wednesday, January 26 at 1pm.

Ray died on Christmas Eve aged 89 and as well as having an impressive First Class career with Yorkshire and Leicestershire, he remained a loyal servant of Farsley for 70 years.

It is fitting that the funeral tea is being held in the Farsley Clubhouse at Red Lane where the lounge is named after him.

His son-in-law Ashley Metcalfe, the chairman of Farsley, said: "As an alternative to flowers, Raymond was keen that any donations would support the Leeds Cancer Centre at St James’ Hospital in Leeds and the junior jection at Farsley.

"In order to achieve this a “gofundme” page has been established to ensure we can thank the excellent team in the Oncology Department for their support over the last 18 months whilst also ensuring the next generation of youngsters have the opportunity to achieve their sporting ambitions at Red Lane. All support will be hugely appreciated."
