Schmulian fires Woodlands into the last 16

Skipper Brad Schmulian hit his second century in this season’s ECB National Clubs Championship as Woodlands clinched their place in the last 16 with a 111-run win over the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League champions Appleby Frodingham.

The talented Kiwi followed up the unbeaten 106 he made in the thrilling win over the 2018 winners Richmondshire in the previous round by scoring 109 as the Gordon Rigg Bradford Premier League champions made 323-8 in their 40 overs after opting to bat first.

Schmulian, who hit two sixes and 17 fours, was joined in a second wicket stand of 144 by Tim Jackson (58), before Tom Clee (51) and Liam Collins (49) increased the pressure on a bowling attack in which Jordan Neill took 3-61.

Appleby Frodingham, who lost by three wickets to Woodlands in last year’s Yorkshire Premier League Play-Off semi-finals, were bowled out for 212. Opener Alex Grimes top scored with 60 while Collins was the most successful bowler with 3-27.

Woodlands will now be away to Liverpool & District Cricket Association side Wallasey who defeated Leigh by 46 runs. The game will be played on Sunday ,July 10.
