Scholes beat Batley as rain hits ties

Yorkshire batsman James Wharton hit an unbeaten 41 as Huddersfield League side Scholes defeated Batley by nine wickets in the only Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup tie to achieve a result as rain posed problems.

Batley batted first in a match reduced to 20 overs per side and must have been reasonably pleased with their total of 178-7 which featured 42 from Muhammad Bhoola. 39 by Yassir Ali and 32 by Kasir Maroof.

Scholes had raced to 79-1 in six overs when play was brought to a halt with them already ahead of the Duckworth Lewis Stern par score.

At Wagon Lane just 27 overs were possible in the tie between Bradford & Bingley and New Farnley. The holders were 130-3 when play was abandoned, Aidan Langley scoring 60.

Honley were 86-2 at Townville when their tie suffered a similar fate. All of the day’s Crowther Cup ties were washed out.
