Just one game went ahead on the opening night of this year’s Gordon Rigg T20 Group A Cup and it saw the 2021 beaten finalists Woodlands open their campaign with a win.
They defeated Bradford & Bingley by 38 runs in a contest reduced to 15 overs per side to go top of Pool Three.
Woodlands opted to bat first and despite the early loss of skipper Brad Schmulian, Muhammad Bilal ensured that the innings was given a brisk start.
Bilal made 37 from 19 balls and the good work was carried on by Tom Clee who struck 41 from 20 deliveries. The Collins brothers Liam and Kieran made useful contributions as Woodlands reached 137-6 in their 15 overs.
Jack Luxton was the most successful bowler with 2-23 while Yasir Abbas was the most economical after conceding just 16 runs in his three overs.
Bradford & Bingley saw their big guns Will Luxton, Corey Miller, Jacob Slator and Ed Brown all dismissed with just 30 on the board.
Abbas struck a brisk 26 but Bradford & Bingley continued to lose wickets as the required rate climbed.
Schmulian shuffled his bowlers to good effect as the home side were eventually dismissed for 99 with five balls of their 15 overs remaining.
Seven games were postponed tonight, East Ardsley v Carlton, Batley v New Farnley, Birstall v Ossett, Keighley v Bankfoot, Jer Lane v Baildon, Pudsey Congs v East Bierley and Pudsey St Lawrence v Undercliffe. Methley forfeited their match against holders Hanging Heaton.
