Yeadon go for a Burton in cup clash

Teenage all-rounder Tom Burton proved to be Lightcliffe’s match winner as they defeated Yeadon by four wickets to secure their place in the quarter finals of the Gordon Rigg Jack Hampshire Cup.

Burton took 6-19 and was supported by Peter Dobson (4-22) as Yeadon lost all 10 wickets for 38 runs after openers Pasindu Thirimadura (63) and Gareth Lee (52) had put on 112.

Lightcliffe lost six wickets in overhauling the Yeadon score of 150. Burton top scored with 29 while Finlay Hill was unbeaten on 26 when victory was achieved. Next for Lightcliffe is another away tie at Hartshead Moor on July 10.

Sandal’s Danny Riley (166no) and Leighton Shuttleworth (106no) shared an unbroken second wicket stand of 263 in their side’s 144-run win over Spen Victoria. They came together after Ashley Mackereth was dismissed for 45.  Riley struck six sixes and 22 fours, while Shuttleworth hit 13 fours as Sandal scored 341-1 in their 40 overs.

Spen’s reply of 197-8 was dominated by Paolo Girardi (97), while Leighton Shuttleworth (3-46) was the pick of the home bowlers.

Sandal’s reward is home advantage against Heckmondwike & Carlinghow who had a 72-run win over Scholes. Usman Qureshi (95), Owais Hussain (57), Fahad Iman (52no) and Ahmed Butt (42) helped Heckmondwike & Carlinghow to make 326-6, with Butt and Qureshi adding 124 for the fifth wicket.

Scholes were bowled out for 254 with Josh Fell (57), Greg Keywood (52) and Shahid Rehman (45) making the bulk of their runs as Usman Qureshi picked up 3-40.

Northowram Fields secured an away trip to Great Preston in the next round after beating Bowling Old lane by 123 runs. Kyle Welsh (51), Lewis Moore (41) and Farhan Hassan (32) helped them make 222-7 before bowling out Old lane for 99 with Jason Smith taking 3-13.
